RACER’S EDGE 1400mah HUMP PACK

We have all been there. The day finally comes to go outside and bash but alas...the alkaline batteries you installed the last time you bashed are already dead. Or you are forgetful and left the switch on in your truck. Drats! Time to toss down another $5-$7 and get more alkaline (disposable) AA's. WHAT A WASTE!!!

Buying a quality, rechargeable receiver battery or otherwise known as "hump pack" is some of the best money you will ever spend. Why keep buying alkaline AA's when you can have a hump pack that you can recharge over and over again? At $5-$7 a set for AA's, you can see how quickly a $24.99 hump pack can start saving you money.

BATTERY 101: The Racer's Edge 1400mah 5-cell hump pack fits into any Savage or Nitro Maxx truck. 5-cells eh? So does that give you more volts? Nope. Alkaline AA's are 1.5 volts each. Multiply that by 4 and you have 6 volts. Rechargeable NiMH batteries are normally 1.2 volts each. Multiply that by 5 and you have 6 volts.

The "mah" rating of a battery gives you an idea on how long it will last. Think of it as the storage capacity of the battery. A 1400 mah battery will last longer than a 1100mah battery. Most hump packs on the market are 1100mah. Nothing wrong with that 1400mah is just plain better! NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries can last 2-4 times longer than alkaline or even standard NiCd batteries. NiMH batteries are also specifically designed for maximum performance in high-drain electronic applications....like RC cars! The only "bad" thing about NiMH batteries is that they tend to discharge faster than alkaline's when just sitting around on the shelf. With that in mind, it is always a good idea to give the hump pack a good charge the night before or morning of a big bash day.

PERFORMANCE: We chose to run the RE hump pack in the most demanding truck we have when it comes to batteries....the Losi LST. The LST likes to eat batteries like Rubin Studdard likes to eat greasy chicken off the all-you-can-eat buffet at Denny's. You get the picture. We strapped the hump pack to the front shock tower to help keep the wheels planted and it is nice and close to the receiver.

The hump pack had plenty of power for the LST and kept us going all day long; we would guess about 5 hours of bashing without any indication of losing power. We topped it off in the charger every evening and it kept us burning nitro for as long as we wanted to the next day. The LST was being used hard (we were testing the FlexTek titanium suspension arms at the time). We have 9 recharges on the battery at present time and it is still as strong (or stronger) than the day we got it. It charges very nicely with both our DuraTrax ICE and DuraTrax Digital Piranha chargers. No false peaks. No overly hot cells. No complaints.

VERDICT: This is an excellent hump pack. No complaints to be had. Lots of run time and plenty of power. And for just $24.99, it will not take long to start saving money versus buying disposable AA's! Visit the Racer's Edge web site and get one on order!
