 OVERALL

FFRC logoAfter years and years of doing reviews on FullForceRC hop-ups, we have come to learn (and you have also) that their stuff is top-notch.  Their latest items, carbon fiber rods for the REVO, are no exception.

PACKAGING /INITIAL THOUGHTS
The rods come in slick little bags, easy to ship and packaged well.  The finish on the rods is pretty cool.  For those who have played with carbon rods before, you know that as the light hits them at different angles, they can change from a dark black to brushed gray in appearance.  This doesn’t add anything to durability or going faster, just a cool looking detail that you will certainly notice when holding them in your hands.

FFRC carbon fiber REVO push rods and toe linksThe threaded inserts are made from 7075 T6 aluminum for super strength and low weight. They feature a nice, smooth radius to remove any stress risers where the threads meet the base of the insert.  This should greatly improve the strength of the rod in this area and help prevent snapped off rod ends.  The inserts are also mounted into the rod nicely and when we checked them against a straight edge, they are as straight as can be.

INSTALLATION
This is an easy procedure.  Remove your current push rods and toe links.  Measure and record the length.  Measure either end to end or rod hole to rod hole.  Keep this handy as you can use this measurement during reassembly to easily duplicate your previous suspension setup and avoid having to reset your toe in etc..  You can also lay the stock rod setups on a piece of paper and mark the length on there.  When adjusting the rod ends on the new rods, simply turn them until they are the same length.

The FFRC Push Rods and Toe Links do not come with rod ends however the stock rod ends work fine.  Just note which rod ends are left hand and right hand threads and install them on the appropriate side of the new FFRC rods.

During our install, we took the time to measure the weight of the stock REVO toe links versus the FFRC parts.  The FFRC rods weighed in at .7 ounces versus our stock rod weight of 2.4 ounces.

FFRC lists the stock REVO rod weight at 2.6 ounces and the variance between our numbers could easily be due to differences in plating, stock rod material and/or our scales.  Regardless, this is a significant weight reduction (60%-70%) in your suspension mechanicals. It should equal suspension that moves easier and faster!

PERFORMANCE
Fortunately, we had the chance to run this setup before the holidays and prior to the sub-zero weather that is outside right now as I am typing this (-13F  brrrrr).  We did some severe snow bank bashing and there were countless occasions where the truck would slam sideways into an icy snow bank and/or land hard on the blacktop….the rods did not quiver.

The strength of carbon fiber is impressive to say the least.  These rods are lighter and we feel, less apt to snap/bend versus the stock units.

Due to our poor outdoor conditions, it was difficult to visually notice any improvement in the suspension handling however, removing that much weight from the suspension mechanicals can only mean smoother, better reacting suspension that any basher (and especially an RC racer) would appreciate very much.

SUMMARY
These rods not only look trick, they remove weight, enhance suspension performance and add strength to your REVO’s suspension.  It’s tough to find fault with any of those benefits.

The full set of toe links sells for a mere $28 and the push rods go for $14 a set.  So for $42 + shipping, you can upgrade your REVO to all carbon fiber rods……how can you go wrong with that? Great price, exceptional value.

Thanks FFRC for giving us more ways to spend our hard earned cash and get the most “bang” for our buck!
