A little more information on your set up would be helpful.

    motor
    battery pack
    pinion
    spur

kind of sounds like low battery. Possibly mesh on pinion/spur gears may be too tight.

It's a mamba 25 with mamba 25 esc and some Losi recover and a normal nimh battery

If I hold the wheels off the ground everything works fine once it's on the ground it is jumpy and in responsive and makes a high piched noise when I hit the throttle

Sounds like it could be a low battery problem, whats the rating on the batteries.

Also have you checked it out with a castle link to check the settings the esc are at?

That is most likely your problem to low of a Mah rating of battery pack for the esc and the esc is most likely set to lipo not nimh.

I ran a dynamite 1700mah 8-cell in my dt. Hard to drive but lots of fun! That is until the gentleman in the BMW ran it over. Mine was all gpm and exotec so the only thing that broke was my motor shaft... And his tire! Lmao
