Default ZLB's GS Storm SUT Build (pic heavy)

OK guys been building this for a while now, hadnt started a thread on it because I really didnt buy it to build.
I had actually bought this to skrap it out.

    But on to the build

Here it is after I got it and cleaned it up.

Looks pretty good, I wasn't expecting it to clean up so well.

Well made a quick motor mount for it just to see how it would do.

Weak, crooked, and thrown together in 20 minutes, but it worked for some test running.

Didn't run it on those tires, had the Mashers on it for testing.

Well testing went well so, I made a much better motor mount for it.

Its nice and square, even screwed to the diff mount for more added strength.

Came out pretty good I even scolloped the edges.

And this is how it sits as of today, new battery box came

And YES!!!! 4s just fits in there

Well I know its been kind of a long thread, and I'm sure you just skimmed threw the pics.

    But, Thanks for looking

Wasn't liking the way the front tires ballooned to extremes when the center diff unloads, so today I
took the tires off the rims and taped them.
While I had them off I figured I'd put some new paint on them.

    Tires all taped up.

    Fresh coat of flat black.

15 minutes of paint brush work.

    On the truck.

    What ya think?

Got it out today, sorry no video, this thing is a blast to run.
Its not spotless clean any more thats for sure.

Loving the way it acts on these tires, handles great and really eats up the dirt and grass.

Running on 4s 5000mah I got 30 minutes of run time out of it.
Its running a little over 35mph and is super quick, really digs in and goes.
To bad they discontinued these rigs, seems like it would have been a dominator on the track.

yes and no. the shorter chassis compared to truggies is kinda a double edged sword. itll turn quicker but its a handful to drive especially on a loose track. the storm buggy which its based off did very well at the regional and national level for a short time. the sut did ok back when people were racing mt's too.

They were only somewhat good back when truggies just started out, at a time when people made their own truggies by installing MT wheels/tires on their buggies and ran super wide offset 17mm hubs. (Basically what GS did with the SUT). I had one at some point, they were ok but nothing like proper, long chassis, wide arm, competition truggies which came out later.

Well had to move the ESC to a safer place where it wouldn't get so covered in everything the front tires throw.

Need to find some narrower tires for it, want to stay with a MT tire but these ones on zero full offset wheels hit the mud guards.

    Show off lol

Thanks for looking, feel free to post.

found that i had the same issue with mine. best advice i can give you is to dial out the epa.

also lexan mud sheilds help a ton to keep the crap out. unfortunately i cant find any pic's of them but i have a set up in the first 3rd of the plastic guards made from lexan and another set that covers the back of the chassis (where i have the esc mounted) the only prolbem is that now all the dirt and debris that gets in stays there even with the underbody i fabbed up it still sucks up clay. but its still a lot better than it was.

truck looks good though! always wanted to put a bug body on my sut

This truck basicly started the truggy craze , GS brought this out to compete in the Monster Truck class to run against REVOS , LST2's ect . Marty Korn DOMINATED the monster truck class with it the first year so badly that it was banned from racing with the MT's . Other companies took notice and started putting out their own 1/8 buggy based trucks and eventually they evolved into the truggies that are run nowdays .

ZLB , the weakest part too that truck I have found was the rear bulkhead/hingepin holders where it mounts too the chassis plate , ended up geting titanium screws as regular steel screws would snap off sometimes on really hard hits .

I still know where it is if you want it for spares , IDK what my buddy would want for it since I sold it too him a long time ago ....
