    Default My Nitro Rustler build

Hey guy's, I decided it was time to make a thread on this thing finally. It started with a 2.5 and then I switched over to the 3.3. I kept snapping drive shaft's so I switched over to the integy steel shaft's(Big mistake) I snapped 2 set's of those. So now it is running Jato shaft's. Since I got tired of snapping part's I am dropping in a 2.5r that I ported with a Nova cooling head. I got the head for $5 and I love Nova head's, I was dissapointed to find out they quit making them. So here are some pic's of it with the 3.3 in it and a pic of the Nova head after some polishing. Let me know what you think.

Cool. I bet that truck really moves, it looks lighter than my jato!

You might do well to stick with the jato half shafts, they're $5 a pair so breaking them isn't nearly as expensive as the hop-up type. Only thing I hate doing is trying to squeeze the u-joints in and out of the outdrives and axles, feels like something's gonna break! FIY, when you assemble the shafts, make it where the blue boot is not near the shock. For you I think that would be to the inside, I had to turn them around to the outside on my ST because the shock sits so close the rubber would balloon and hit the shock, tearing it. I can't tell in your pics, just thought you might want to know!

BTW, that Nova head is $hiny!!!

    Thank's DieselMunkey.

The jato shaft's weren't on it in those pic's because they are older pic's, Right now it is sitting with a broken rear bearing carrier because I clipped the back tire of my mustang with the Nitro Rustler and it ripped straight through the rear bearing carrier.

You actualy can't keep the blue rubber piece on the shaft's because you have to cut the boot off and cut off the piece the boot mount's to so that your suspension can fully decompress.

Sucks about the bearing carrier! Sometimes it gets so fast, steering just stops working! Lol!

Are you saying that the boots have to be removed to work on a rusty? They stay neutral on mine throughout the entire suspension stroke.

Yes they have to be removed to work on the Rusty. Here is a guide on how to make them work on a Nitro Rustler. http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...s-on-a-Rustler

Well I don't own a rusty, but I just learned there's a u-joint tool! Might have to get one, needle-nose pliers hurt when they pinch!

I agree, I've pinched myself a few time's putting axle's together. Yous Jato didn't come with the u-joint tool? Here is a pick of it tonight after a half-hour teardown.

It's all preference. I like the Spirt of Competition and tight races. The high acceleration and always-inch boards. The fact that you're wrong You Break an inch and keeps you on edge for the whole 6 minutes. I'm more of a corridor covered Onroad, Hentz The Corally Logo. Yes, but you're right. The right front tire is backwards.

Turbo2007 I alway's have axle issue's, But mine is strictly a off road basher that I constantly pull wheelies with.

No it's not back together yet lilbrett. I picked up all tha parts except the rear bearing carrier from my LHS last night. So I am going to start putting it back together tonight. Just need to get the rear bearing carrier now.

lilpanther, I know I can't seem to keep mine going. I had to fix mine 3 times the other day before burning 1/2 a tank (castor block, shock cap,rod end, servo saver, rear arm mount) now I have used up my very very small collection of spare parts including a few parts off of my Sport.

May be a dumb question, but how do you keep the wheels so clean? I have the same ones on my jato and ever since the first few runs I can't get the gunk off the chrome. Your rusty looks way better when all the parts are in the right places!

Yep, my left rear wheel is thrashed too! Oh well, small price to pay to have an rc with a real engine! Can we expect a running vid when the bearing carrier is installed?

If I can get the video to work right, Last time I tried to do a video my computer wouldn't recognize the format and it was taking forever to get it to upload to photobucket with the horrible router I used to have. Might have to see if I still have the video of it with the 3.3 in it on my old laptop. And aslong as the motor work's, Never got to run it in anything before I did the port work on it.

Back to squarer one. All the parts to finish it came in today and I put it together to take it out for a run and couldn't get fuel to the 2.5r's carb, Tried everything in the book and couldn't get it to work. So I dropped the 3.3 back in and went out for some fun, I think the 3.3 is there to stay. Now I remember why I put up with fixing this thing all the time, Its just a blast to drive. Hopefully I can get some video of it soon.
