    Default Pajero J Top build

pajero soft top. These are more common around here so I've always thought if I did a pajero I'd cut the top off. turns out I'm actually going to leave the wb alone on this one, lol. I've had my fill of bodywork/sanding for the moment.

I sold my Brat so I have some cash for two budget projects using some parts I had, some new, some traded for styrene work...

the inspiration (will not do a direct copy)

Will do the same kind of aggressive body treatments I did to the montero. I think they look pretty good.

pantablo's extreme off road J Top will include:

    -custom chassis by a friend
    -mamba micro pro esc (eventually)
-novak 55t mated to HPI Wheely King reduction box (both under hood), mated to axial trans as transfer case stuffed inside the front seats
    -TLT axles
-chassis mounted steering servo (whatever servo I happen to have in the box, probably a HS311, lol)
-Topcad 8 hole alum 1.9 wheels (will reconsider though, maybe 1.7 brats)
-cut n shut Claw Dawg tires
-modified Pajero body (will remain SWB 2dr though, lol)
-full interior (from 1:8 scale JK)
-some exo tube work around fenders, interior cage, bumpers...undecided.
    -lights
    -snorkel (waterproofed rig)
    -3racing winch
    -visible fuel tank again
-pulled back ragtop like in inspiration photo

built the whole kit to start, first time I've ever built a kit.

then set aside the cc01 chassis (already sold, long story)

chassis will be similar to this (this one specific to his JK body)

    reduced and narrowed tires

thats where I'm at as of tonight (this morning?). not going to kill myself on the bodywork on this one.

kit includes everything but a steering servo, your battery and your radio's receiver to run. Its a solid rear axle and IFS, so its a bit more scale and less capable than some other custom rigs but everyone I know that has one just loves driving them.
    prices range from $160-$180.

most of the bodywork is done as far as I want to take it. I'll finish up filling in the gaps in the grill and bottom of tailgate, some slight filling and sanding in spots then primer, hopefully tomorrow.

what do you use and how do you cut those plastic so straight????

    which part?
Where I cut the body I taped it off using the blue painters tape as a straight edge. I used string to cut the body parts off and the half doors. Its slow enough you can keep it on the tape edge pretty easily. Then afterwards I take a fine file to smooth it out as necessary.
When I cut the back roof off I used a dremel cut off wheel. Then went back and used the file to get it flat and straight.
the styrene I am adding I cut with a metal ruler as a straight edge and use a utility knife. Thats also how I cut the B pillar body part out, as you can see from my overcutting, lol...

    Thanks guys.

I'm thinking of adding a partial exo, from top of fender back.
something like this. I' m not convinced about the back half yet...
There would be cross members at bottom and top of windshield, back of roof and behind the rear seats.

    comments/suggestions?

I just didnt like the exo...
I made it an internal cage instead. Simpler and the body hides my horrible brazing.
I think I can safely say I totally suck at brazing.

I am certainly digging the internal cage over the Exo.

    Nice job.

The exo looked like it was going to cause more problems than it was worth...The internal looks much better and will give the soft top some contour.
