Default How to build a Ball Diff.

    I will be using a MIP Super diff for a RC18 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXKBC2&P=ML

    The Parts:
    Eight 2mm diff balls
    Seven 1.5mm thrust balls
    Two diff drive rings
    Three thrust washers
    One diff bolt
    One diff spring
    One differential gear
    One diff nut
    One diff nut holder
    The out drives

    How To:

    1. Apply some diff grease to back of diff gear (I will be using mip black grease as I don't have diff grease on hand) then put one of the diff rings on then put the short output drive on.
    2. Make a little pile of grease on the surface you are working on, dip the end of your allen wrench in said grease and p/u a diff ball.Place said ball in spot on diff. repeat as necessary.
    3. Put more grease over your balls and put your other diff ring on.
    4. The build up of the diff bolt is a bit of a pain!!! First put one of the thrust washers on the diff bolt followed by the spring followed by another washer. that was easy enough....Now the fun! put a bead of grease around the last washer you put on. Now do the same as you did for the diff balls use your allen wrench to place your thrust balls (7) place the last washer over the balls and make sure the balls stay put.
    5. The final stretch put the nut in the holder and place in the lshort side of the diff. Put the two halves of the diff together make sure the long neck of the output locks into the diff ring. put the bolt assembly on the allen wrench and insert into the long side of the diff. Now tighten diff. I always tighten all the way then back off. Diff Compleate

before you install diff you need to put your shims and bearings on. I use 2 shims.

are the other wheels turning? if so they are good. to check if your diff is too loose pull it out and put an allen wrench through each output and see if you can turn the diff gear. if it spins easily it is too loose. if it dose not spin at all it is too tight. if there is anything else I can help you with pm me I don't always check this sticky

Those 1.5 mm balls are so easy to lose - it's ridiculous... I'm only running 6 in my 18t's front diff at the moment...
